I designed and coordinated delivery of IATMJ's outreach and
learning activities, working with young people from across the social
spectrum, but predominantly with those from Bristol's disadvantaged
communities. This work contributed to community cohesion through
provision of valuable skills training, and enabled the voices of young
people most at risk from social exclusion to be heard. IATMJ's
inclusive approach raised aspiration through free provision of
proprietory audio-visual software, and empowered through dissemination
of knowledge and skills. Their informal D.I.Y. aesthetic encouraged a
can-do culture which helped to build confidence and self-belief.

IATMJ’s generative audio-visual systems are used to drive live audio-visual performances at prestige events such as Rotterdam International Film Festival (2005), Bath International Music festival (2006) and Bordeaux's Cine Concerts, (2008). I designed the collectives generative community portraits program to enable young people to contribute to research and development of innovative new resources. Their contribution
directly informed innovative education software developed in
partnership with Futurelab. The Film Education Council invited IATMJ to present the work at the Film Education Council's CP3 conference (Critical Practice, Creative Process, Cultural Perspective), Sussex University in 2005.
The aim of the conference was to examine the broad relationship
between critical practice and creative process in relation to the use
of digitial video in UK education. Delegates included teachers and
advisory teachers from Film & media Studies, English, Art and ICT,
plus education professionals from the further and informal sectors.
IATMJ delivered two workshops entitled 'Non-narrative' & "Music'
which introduced methods and technologies used to make Generative
Community Portraits with young people.
